The Cord coalition will not name its presidential flag bearer this year but rather early next year, after settling on the most popular candidate to face President Uhuru Kenyatta.
ODM Chairman John Mbadi told a local media outlet that the naming has been delayed as the opposition coalition is in talks with other key political outfits ahead of next year elections.
“The strategy is to pull a surprise. This is why the principals are not in a hurry,” he said.
Mbadi said the coalition will name its presidential flag-bearer early next year after settling on the most popular candidate to face Uhuru.
“As ODM, we have been pitching for our leader Raila Odinga to carry the Cord flag because we believe he is the best. Other parties within the coalition have also been campaigning for their leaders. Eventually, we will agree on who should be our candidate,” he added.
The opposition coalition is said to have held talks with Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi with aim to join political forces ahead of next year polls.
