Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe has claimed this saying that unnamed politicians are seeking funding from political players in the region to destabilise the Jubilee administration.

"The government has detailed intelligence reports that some politicians are out to take power through extra-constitutional means," said Kiraithe.

"We have taken note and appropriate action has been taken. There is a politician who has realised that 2017 is his last," said Kiraithe.

Similar accusations have been made by Jubilee MPs led by Starehe MP Maina Kamanda who on Monday accused Cord leader Raila Odinga of planning to take power through the backdoor.

"We know you very well since 1982 and you don't like following the constitutional order. You have always wanted to take power through the backdoor," said Kamanda.

Cord has, however, dismissed the allegations as "juvenile imaginations that must be substantiated."

Kiraithe was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday.
