Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has said that Cord's agitation for the disbandment of the current IEBC has got nothing to do with electoral reforms.
Ichung'wa has said that the singular aim of the opposition is to create anarchy with an objective of postponing next year's elections and thereafter forming a caretaker government that they will be part of.
"The Cord coalition has got one singular purpose with this IEBC issue, and that is to create anarchy in this country in order we have a situation as worse as that of 2007/2008. With that they will be able to say that the country is now ungovernable and we cannot therefore hold elections in 2017," said Inchungwa, who was speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday.
He reminded Cord that the Kriegler Commission which was formed to inquire into 2007 General elections, discouraged Kenya into making changes to the electoral body two years prior to General elections.
"Even if we put relatives of Cord members to be in charge of IEBC they will not be satisfied with that. The only thing they will be satisfied with is a government they will be part of or a caretaker one," Ichungwa said.
The first-time MP asserted that Cord was doing all this because it knows it has 'no chances' of electoral victory in 2017. Cord co-principal Moses Wetangula was quoted on Wednesday during Cord rally at Uhuru Park as saying that there will be no elections in 2017 if IEBC remains as currently constituted.
