Chairman Isaak Hassan of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has termed the attack by Cord coalition to have the commissioners sent home as political.
Speaking at Jeff Koinage Show at KTN on Wednesday night, Hassan said the opposition coalition presented 'fake' signatures and when they were rejected they started street protests.
"The moment we found that the signatures presented to the commission were repeated, names don't exist and other mistakes, we rejected them not knowing that Cord would start anti-IEBC claims and asking us to vacate office," said Hassan.
He said that the commission has conducted several by-election and Cord won some of them and cannot allege that the commissioners should resign.
"We have conducted close to 100 by-election where cord won several of them including Bungoma senatorial and Malindi parliamentary elections. The work of commisioners is not to conduct elections since we have 290 returning officers who submit the figures and we announce them. The results are 100% accurate," added the IEBC Chair.
He said the commission is independent and commissioners are in office constitutionally til their term expires in November 14 2017.
"We know the anti-IEBC claims are political. But we will discharge our duties as per the constitution. We are the most experienced electoral body in the region who are able to conduct six elections the same day," said Hassan.
He said there is no commissioner who is going to resign unless they are shown the allegations which Cord and some Jubilee members are accusing them for.
