Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has said he will seek reelection on a Jubilee Alliance Party (Jap) ticket.
He said despite the Western region being known to be an opposition stronghold, he will try his luck through Jap.
"I will continue supporting the government of the day and come 2017, I will seek reelection on the Jap ticket," he said during an interdenominational meeting for Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Arap Lusaka in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County.
"It's clear that Cord will not win the next elections, why should we stay in a loosing party? Luhya leaders need to style up," he added.
The governor said the Luhya community was tired of being in the opposition, and its high time it joined the government.
"It's time we look beyond our tribal and political cocoons for this county to move forward. We need to be in the government for us to enjoy the national cake," he said.
