The Coalition of Reforms and Democracy (Cord) affiliate parties won’t be merged into one political outfit as their Jubilee counterparts after all.
According to the Star, the opposition will no longer push ahead with its proposal to register Cord as a political party.
On Wednesday, Cord deputy minority leader and Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo dismissed the idea, saying it wasn't there in the first place.
He added that their strategy is to strengthen affiliate parties within the coalition.
“That is street talk and imagination. The central management committee has never had that idea,”said Midiwo during an interview with the Star.
“We have no such idea at all, that is the creation of Kikuyu-Kalenjin imagination,” he said.
The coalition has roped in parties among them ODM, Wiper, Ford Kenya and 10 others which will retain their identities.
In September, Cord management committee co-chairs Senators James Orengo and Johnstone Muthama had said the coalition would register as a single “corporate” Cord Party.
The Siaya Senator told journalists then that they had reserved the name Cord with the Registrar of Political Parties, and plans were at an advanced stage.
