Speaking on Monday during an interview on Al-jazeera, Macharia said that the number of people going out in the streets to demonstrate had significantly reduced.

"What we are seeing at the moment is a reduced number of demonstrators going to the streets," said Gakuru.

"It looks like the momentum is not as high as it was before when these demonstrations started," he added.

Gakuru attributed this to elections being 'a bit far' as well as attempts by both sides, Jubilee and Cord, to negotiate a middle ground to unlock the impasse.

The commentator also noted that KANU's joining of the anti-IEBC demos had no impact as their supporters in their strongholds were not participating in the protests.

"KANU joining the protests has not increased the effect that the opposition would have wished of having more demonstrators join in. They would have wished to see the demos become more widespread but that does not seem forthcoming," Gakuru said.

He asserted that many ordinary Kenyans are not concerned about the IEBC but are rather interested in matters that affect their daily lives.
