A man accused of being corrupt has been buried with Sh5.7 million in a bizarre incident that left mourners wagging their tounges.

The man, identified as Charles Obong is said to have worked as a public servant between 2006 and 2016 before he passed on.

Before his death, however, he is reported to have demanded that he be buried with the cash which, he had said he will give as a gift to God.

Obong died on December 17, 2016, after a long illness and was buried at his ancestral home at Adag-ani village, Bar-pii parish, Aromo Sub-county in Lira District, on Christmas Eve.

He is said to have reported that he wanted to use the money to redeem his image after being involved in many corruption scandals while still alive.

He was buried in a metallic coffin worth Sh20,000.

Aromo sub-county chairman, Mr David Elic, said his brother-in-law had left behind a Will, dictating that upon his death, his wife Ms Margaret Obong should deposit huge sums of money in his coffin.

The wife said her husband planned to convey the money to God as an offertory so that the Almighty Father could forgive his sins.

The lady also reported that the man instructed his brother Justin Ngole and sister Hellen Aber to make sure he is buried with the cash.

The incident happened in Northern Uganda as reported by Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper.
