The cost of sugar in the coming weeks is set to increase as sugar shortage hits the country.
Sugar prices have escalated and particularly in Nakuru, the cost has increased to between six to eight percent of original price.
At Tuskys, Ukwala and Wool Matt Supermarkets in Nakuru a 2kg packet of sugar retails at sh265 while 1kg retails at between sh135 and sh125.
According to retail managers in the supermarkets, the increase is attributed to a shortage in supply of local sugar.
Kenyans should now be ready to dig deeper into their pockets in the coming days to acquire this commodity.
