Contributions from employees towards the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) has been increased by Sh50.
The new measure will start taking effect at the end of September 2016 where the deductions will rise from Sh100 to Sh150.
Making the announcement on Monday, Cotu boss Francis Atwoli said that the charges will take effect following the gazettement of the new rate by Labour Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie last Friday.
“Every employer who employs not less than five members of an affiliated trade union, upon receiving notice in writing from Cotu Secretary- General, will be bound to deduct a sum of Sh150 from each member and pay the total sum realised from the deductions within ten days from date of deduction,” read part of the Kenya Gazette notice.
According to Atwoli, the new rates were arrived at following a resolution by delegates during a meeting at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu.
