Nurses demonstrating over a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the government. [Photo/Newsdaykenya]The Central Organization of Trade Union (Cotu) is set to arbitrate in talks between government and nurses as the nurses strike entered its seventh day.
Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) officials who led the nurses in demonstrations accused governors of been a stumbling block in the signing and registration of the CBA at the labor relations courts.
At the Council of Governors’ offices it would appear their match from Uhuru Park Grounds to the COG offices in Westlands was an exercise in futility. They were informed the chair of the governor’s council Josphat Nanok was not present.
The nurses are demanding the implementation of the 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreement signed between their union and the County Chiefs maintaining they will not return to work until their demands are met.
The nurses’ union officials are accusing governors and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission for derailing the process of signing the CBA despite reaching an agreement.
In a bid to unlock the stalemate the Central Organization of Trade Union has offered to arbitrate in the matter and has scheduled a meeting between the parties for Tuesday.
The strike has paralyzed services in hospitals across the country.
