The Central Organisation for Trade Unions (COTU) has challenged the Council of Governors (CoG) to come out and end the long strike by the nurses.
COTU trustee member Francis Wangara told the Kenya National Union of Nurses to sign Recognition Agreements and Collective Bargaining Agreement with the (CoG) representing all 47 counties.
Wangara said it is difficult for the nurses union to sign such deals with individual counties.
He said CoG must step up and sign the agreements on behalf of all the counties to save the country from the suffering in the health sector.
“It is cumbersome for the nurses union to sign pact with each county in the country, make it simple and let CoG sign on behalf of all the counties,” he said.
Addressing a press conference in Kisumu at his office on Friday, Wangara said there is a lot of mischief going on among the parties that has hampered the process.
However, Wangara is putting the blame on the government for the failure to bring the long running strike by nurses to an end.
He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta has the political will to bring the strike to an end.
“This strike could have ended if President Kenyatta was keen on it. He says the capability, capability, he should not be relaxed and Kenyans are dying,” he said.
Wangara said the President has given a blackout to the ongoing strike and challenged him to rise to the occasion and save Kenyans.
