Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to nominated an individual who has interests of workers at heart for the Labour Cabinet Secretary docket.
Cotu Uasin Gishu chairman Peter Odima further says the CS should also be willing to get out of his/her office comfort and listen to workers concerns across the country.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Odima said there was the need for the Labor CS to have basic knowledge of workers rights as well as local and international labor laws.
"We request and hope that the President will give us a CS who will work for our interests. Someone who will not just sit in the office and wait for the salary at the end of the month," noted Odima.
"We want somebody who will go all over the country, listen to workers concerns and work to see the best way to be addressed," he added.
This comes even as it remains unclear whether Phyllis Kandie who has been serving as the CS in the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), Labour and Social Protection will be retained or not.
She was not among six Cabinet Secretaries the President said had been retained.
