Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli has given six governors until Friday to reinstate the sacked county staff or face legal action.
The six are county bosses for Kisumu, Machakos, Migori, Marsabit, Busia, Siaya, and Meru.
Atwoli said the governors have no mandate to fire workers as it is against the labour laws, adding that they can only fire political appointees such as chief officers.
“Are you sacking the employees merely to replace them? That does not make any logical sense. You cannot just wake up and decide that you are going to dismiss workers. We’re saying an emphatic no,” Atwoli told the Nation on the phone on Tuesday.
Atwoli who spoke at his Ildamat home in Kajiado County added that Cotu there are procedures to be followed before any staff is laid off.
“Before any county worker is sacked, the governors must convince the Labour ministry and the workers’ unions that they have valid reasons for off-loading their employees,” he added.
He revealed that Cotu will provide the Union of County Government Workers with logistics “when we move to court on Friday, if they (governors) shall not have annulled the sackings”.
