Reliable sources have revealed that DP William Ruto is secretly bankrolling a faction of the Jubilee Party to oppose Peter Kenneth.
DP Ruto is purported to be behind a team which includes Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, TNA MP Johnson Sakaja, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Dagoreti South MP Denis Waweru.
The sources revealed that Ruto sees Kenneth as an obstacle to his presidential bid for 2022.
It is assumed that Ruto is not taking any chances and believes Kenneth will use the Nairobi governor's office to launch his presidential bid in 2022.
"Kenneth is following what Kenyatta did. He will inherit the Kikuyu vote after Uhuru and that will complicate Ruto's bid," a source close to Ruto told the Star on Thursday.
Just to add more surmise on Ruto's hand in blocking Kenneth gubernatorial bid on Tuesday a group of MPS from Rift Valley notably Nandi Hills Alfred Keter, Bernard Bett of Bomet East, Leonard Sang of Bureti, and Kapseret's Oscar Sudi joined Sonko's team in their push against a Kenneth candidature.
However, Keter distanced DP Ruto from the behind the scene theatrics.
“The DP is out of this. We were just mobilising supporters to register. We've all been told to ensure our people are registered and that's what I am doing in Rift Valley,” Keter told the Star.
Nairobi is indeed a crucial center of power since it houses a significant number of international offices and is also an economic powerhouse which gets a lion's share of county allocation.
