Wiper Party leader and Opposition alliance co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at a possible amendment of the constitution to introduce new government positions.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, Musyoka said NASA will seek to amend the constitution to change the system of government.
“I hold the view there will be room for each of us (NASA principals); all four of us. We are not done with amendments to the basic document in this country – the Constitution. Kenyans would recall and when I actually accepted my party’s nomination as its flag bearer on the 13th of December, 2016 I said that within the first 180 days, we will cause a Constitutional amendment," the former Vice President observed.
Amendment of the constitution would precipitate a referendum.
“We will go to the people of this country and try to remind them that a Constitution is not a static document. It has to respond to the political environment as well as aspirations of the people. We will create the Office of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister," Musyoka said.
The ruling Jubilee Party has in the past condemned the Opposition on the matter, accusing Opposition leaders of selfishness and greed for power.
Creation of new government positions seeks to avert any possible fallout within the Opposition outfit.
