Jubilee Party's top leadership has dismissed reports by a section of the media claiming that President Uhuru Kenyatta has endorsed Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Peter Kenneth for the City's top seat.

In a statement by JP's Secretary General Raphael Tuju, the party maintained that the Head of State had no preferred candidate in any seat ahead of Jubilee's primaries slated for April 21.

“Our attention has been drawn to media reports suggesting that His Excellency the President, in his role as the leader of the Jubilee Party, has indicated support for a candidate in the Nairobi gubernatorial race. These reports are untrue,” Tuju said.

“The President has not endorsed any candidate, believing that Nairobi Jubilee members will make their choice in a free, fair and credible process at the nominations," he added.

Tuju further affirmed the party's commitment to conduct free, fair and transparent primaries.

Kenneth is facing stiff competition from Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru both who are eyeing the Nairobi governorship seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
