The current spate of students unrest in Kisii and Nyamira counties is politically instigated as some sources have revealed.
For close to a fortnight, there has been a spate of school fires in boarding schools countrywide.
However, no county has experienced such arsons to an unprecedented level like Kisii and Nyamira counties.
It’s worth noting that, Fred Matiangi, the cabinet secretary of education comes from this area and he is rumored to be groomed for a political seat within the area in the general election.
Fred Matiangi is credited for trying to bring order in the education sector and is therefore envied by many who think that his record may help him get any seat within the Gusii region with ease without being opposed.
It is this envy that is believed to have informed a clique of area leaders to come out and malign the minister’s reputation since his star has never stopped rising. He is among the few Gusii leaders in the top government position.
On the other hand, Fred Matiangi noted that elections year is still too far for someone to claim he want to vie for a political seat.
Matiang'i in his past rallies to schools within the region has been quoted giving threats to teachers who engage in politics that they should resign before joining politics.
Could Matiang'i's eyeing a political seat in the Gusii region be the reasons for the current students unrest in Kisii and Nyamira counties?
