The council of elders said that Obure had worked for Kenya in various departments, and there had never been any embezzlement scandal or corruption allegations raised against him.

“Our senator has worked for Kenyans for long and there is no day he has ever been accused of stealing from the government or anybody else. We the elders want to say that we know he is clean and he will be vindicated,” said James Mang’erere, one of the elders.

In a statement read by Mang’erere, the Council of Elders said that when the Anglo-leasing scandal began, a commission was put in place to conduct an investigation into the matter.

They said that when the investigation was concluded the senator was one of those found to be clean of any such behavior.

The elders said that they were surprised to learn that a case had been opened against the senator and that they hoped that he would be vindicated as soon as possible.

“We the people of Kisii love our senator and we want him to continue working for us because he is a hardworking person,” said Mang’erere.
