Nyamira Cultural Groups Council has come out to condemn last week's incident where locals heckled and booed governor John Nyagarama during the president's visit, forcing him to cut short his speech.
The council, through their chairperson and also a renowned herbalist Dr. Paul Okibo have said that it was a show of disrespect to the top leaders who accompanied the president and the governor himself.
He said that the heckling of Nyagarama in Kebirigo market on Tuesday last week was against the culture of the Gusii community, highlighting on the need to play sober politics and give elected leaders time to implement their mandates to the electorates.
"Our cultural values does not outline heckling as the solution to disagreement on one's leadership, and respect must be shown to the ones in power and proper channels to be followed to solve any displeasure on a regime or government," he added.
Nyagarama was heckled after he stood to address the residents of Kebirigo where the president had gone to commission the Mosobeti-Kebirigo road.
Nyamira woman representative Alice Chae was not spared either from the jeering.
