The Council of Governors has condemned the move by the government to withdraw security detail of Mombasa Governor Ali Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi.
The Council’s Chair Peter Munya says they will convene a meeting today, Monday, to discuss the matter.
The incident, which is seen by many as political, comes only a day after the two leaders lectured the president during his visit to the coastal towns, accusing the government of riding on projects that they did not initiate.
"I know the history of this project. It started in 2010 way before Jubilee came to power," Joho said during the president’s visit to Mombasa last week.
"What we want to hear being announced is that the Jubilee government will leave behind a few billions for several projects," he added.
However, responding to the allegations on Sunday, statehouse clarified that the move to withdraw the leaders’ security detail was part of the reorganization, and was in no way political.
“The regional command structures in Mombasa and Kilifi are re-organising themselves, and it will be upto them to respond to issues around that reorganization,” said Esipisu.
Mombasa’s Joho is set to jet back this week from Ghana, where he had attended the inauguration of the Ghanaian president.
