Wednesday marks the kick-off of the IAAF World U18 Championships in Kenya at Kasarani’s Safaricom Stadium.

Local Organising Committee CEO Mwangi Muthee has expressed his confidence over the preparations ahead of the championship tournament.

Mwangi explained how the government has helped renovate the stadium for the competition which has cut costs on the construction of a new sports arena.

He says more the 1,500 participants from over 100 countries have arrived and are eager to get the games underway.

"About 1800 athletes will be in the country and we expect the country will reap so much from the World U18 Championships," he said as reported by The Star.

He further went on to highlight the opening ceremony which he said would display the vast beauty the country has to offer.

Muthee said, “The event "The event will take place in two sections; in the morning and the afternoon and we shall provide entertainment; we’re working with major artists in the country," he was also quoted by The Star.

As for the hosts Kenya, there will be approximately 60 athletes competing in different athletic competitions in the championship.
