The goods were destroyed by the Kenya Anti-Counterfeit Agency and witnessed by the Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed.

Speaking during the incident Adan said that the use of counterfeit goods violates intellectual property rights and pose health and security risks to consumers.

Counterfeit goods have seen several foreign companies been closed down in Kenya such as Eveready Kenya and Cadbury in such for better markets for their goods.

At the same time, Kenya Anti-Counterfeit Agency Deputy Director John Akoten said that the agency was working hard to ensure consumer protection against devious businesses which manufacture counterfeit goods.

Akoten argued Kenyan to be very vigilant before purchasing products and report any cases of counterfeit goods.

Tight security was ensured during the destruction of the products which included vehicle spare parts, computer accessories, cloths, tobacco products, electronics and alcoholic drinks.

The counterfeit goods were part of goods worth Sh 880 million intercepted by the Kenya Anti-Counterfeit Agency in the past four years.
