Counterfeit goods worth Sh34 million have been destroyed by anti a counterfeit agency in Athi River town.The destruction was done by Industrialization CS Aden Mohammed and Anti counterfeit agency executive director Elema Halake at Enviro-safe Limited in Export processing zone Authority on Friday.Addressing the press shortly after destruction, director Elena halake said the goods destroyed included assortment of electronics, phones, clothing and foodstuffs.He noted that the exercise was conducted for the purpose of protecting consumers from counterfeit goods."The ultimate reason for such destruction is to merely protecting consumers from fake goods,the government loses billions annually as a result of counterfeit products.He however said that the agency will strengthen its collaborations with Intellectual Property Owners, Kenya Association of Manufacturers among other government agencies in a bid to eliminate fake goods from the Kenyan market.
