Counties across the country have been challenged to supply water to homesteads to benefit all residents, to enhance socio-economic development in their regions.
Lake Victoria South Water Services Board Chairman, Ambassador John Koech has challenged county governments across the country to consider taking piped water to the villages as part of the efforts to create investment opportunities to the grassroots communities.
Speaking at Nyangori Market, Gachuba Ward in Nyamira County during the ground-breaking ceremony for Keroka Town Water supply project, Koech observed that time wasted by women to travel long distances in search of water can be utilised in doing other economic activities if county governments take water services to the people's homesteads.
"Having piped water at the residents' homesteads can greatly save time taken by women in travelling for water for long distances, instead such time be used in discharging economic activities that can transform their counties' economies," observed Koech.
Koech said time for women and girls to travel for long distances is long gone, urging county government to partner with various development partners and the State to ensure their residents are supplied with clean piped water at their homesteads.
