Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Environment, Water, Natural Resources, Tourism and Wildlife Management Mary Njogu has urged North and South Rift counties to roll out sensitization of public on matters conservation of the environment.
This, she said, is the only avenue that will see the two regions meet the Country's 10 percent forest cover.
The environment now faces adverse challenges brought about by climate change which is a result of human activities that has made it vulnerable to the changing weather patterns.
Environmentalists are in a continuous process of coming up with solutions to curb these challenges through environmental conservation.
Speaking on Tuesday after leading a team of members from the Environmental body, NEMA, drawn from Eight Counties of North and South Rift in officiating a workshop that is aimed at coming up with solutions that will help in environmental conservation, Njogu lauded the organizations initiative of incorporating counties in their activities.
She noted the effects of environmental degradation citing the current floods from the short rains as one of the visible effects.
On his part, the Chief Officer in charge of the department raised concerns on the continuous cutting down of trees which now exposes the country to a chance of becoming the only dry part in the region.
The CEC and the CO later presided over another workshop by Kenya Water and Sanitation Network (KEWASNET) team where they called on stakeholders to reinforce on the policies that help in conserving the environment.
