The Council of Governors chairman Isaac Ruto has urged the state to add counties more funds to help in uplifting education sector.
Speaking during the second annual devolution conference held at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu County, Ruto said that counties are receiving meagre allocations from the treasury hence not enough to handle devolved sectors.
Ruto said that in the financial year 2014/15 they were given Sh3 billion to support the constructions of Early Childhood Education classrooms and the recruitment of ECDE tutors whereby each county was to receive Sh60 million.
"We are getting meagre shares to support the early childhood development. I am requesting the treasury to add us more funds to speed up the devolution," said Ruto.
He however added that polytechnics are also left behind as they are getting Sh946 million to handle hence hindering them reach devolution goals.
He thus noted that for counties to work effectively the government need to pump more money.
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta who officially opened the conference urged governors to help him in fighting corruptions at the county level.
"I am busy fighting corruption nationally therefore I will not tolerate any governor who is dancing to the tune of corruption," said Kenyatta.
The conference was attended by all 47 governors, senators and the members of county assemblies.
