A secret NIS report carried out between the month of June and July shows that President Uhuru Kenyatta has lost marginally key counties in the vote rich Rift Valley region.

In 2013, Rift Valley played a pivotal role in Uhuru’s election having scored massively in the region following support by area political de facto, William Ruto.

Simmering rivalry between Ruto and a host of politicians from the region could be the major catalyst behind the shocking figures.

“He has gained in a number of opposition strongholds especially in Western and Coast but he dearly needed to solidify his support base,” a source privy to government operations told the reporter in confidence.

“Rift Valley is where opposition could score up to 50 percent in a number of counties and this is not good news at all,” adds the source.

Among the regions where opposition team is tipped to garner over 40 percent of votes include Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, Bomet, Kericho and Uasin Gishu.

Also Kajiado, Narok, Laikipia and Samburu are said to have projected an Odinga victory despite inroads made by the head of state.
