The Ministry of Health has partnered with county governments in a concerted campaign to eradicate Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD).

According to the national Head of the NTD Unit, Dr. Sultan Matendechero, the team is set visit all the 47 counties to set up coordination stations to inform on the financing, treatments and service delivery capacities.

“We shall go in and talk with county bosses and discuss what we need to do to address to eradicate NTDs. This will determine how we will fund their activities,” he explained.

Dr. Matendechero further revealed that about Sh2.5 billion will be required to control and eradicate the NTDs in the country.

He added that the NTD eradication programme has already set targets to eliminate disorders such as elephantiasis and blinding trachomas by 2020.

Kenya has already dealt with Guinea worm disease where the last case was recorded in 1994 . The country is now awaiting for a certification by the World Health Organization in September this year.
