Shortage of doctors across the counties is set to be addressed soon with governors set to hire 700 more doctors.

Governors have reached a decision to absorb 700 doctors once they complete their internship, the number is higher than the 400 doctors who were to be employed earlier. 

Currently, a task force has been appointed to look into the state of hospitals in counties. 

The task force is set to develop a plan to absorb all the doctors with a long-term vision of posting them to health centers and dispensaries across the country. 

Kisii governor James Ogwae who is also the chairman of the council of governors Human Resource Committee has said in a statement sent to newsrooms. 

"I want to assure the country all the doctors will be absorbed as soon as the task force comes up modalities to facilitate their recruitment," said Ogwae. 

The world health organization recommends that doctor to patient ratio to be 1:600 however the country has a ratio of 1:5000. 

Currently out of the 757 doctors who have completed their internship, the 47 counties have only managed to employ 464 doctors.
