The government has made an ambitious budget proposal for the financial 2016/17 yet again.
The Sh2.3 trillion will largely benefit locally through ordinary revenues at Sh1.7 trillion.
While delivering the budget statement at the National Assembly, National Treasury CS, Henry Rotich announced an additional allocation to the counties totaling to Sh304.2 billion. The CS also announced a Sh19 billion allocation to the IEBC to allow for the commission prepare adequately for the upcoming general elections.
Rotich also announced the commitment to asset recovery.
Towards that end, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been allocated Sh2.8 billion and the office of the DPP will receive Sh2.1 billion in the current financial year.
Sh12.2 billion has been allocated for on-going irrigation projects countrywide and transformation of agriculture from subsistence to productive commercial farming. This includes Sh3.2 billion allocated to the Galana-Kulalu Irrigation Project.
Other sectors that received major financial allocations in the budget include Roads and Transport, Health, Security and Education.
