The newly created Tourism Recovery Taskforce has appealed to the Nakuru County government to specialise in two products to market it internationally.
Ministry of East African Affairs and Commerce Cabinet Secretary (CS) Phyllis Kandie has said that the taskforce is meant to look into different ways to increase the number of tourists visiting the country. She added that she has already given the group ideas on how to diversify tourism in the country to reach more tourists with additional products.
“We mandated the taskforce to look into ways of bridging various ministries and turning them into tourist attractions,” she said.
“We are already consulting with the Ministry of Agriculture to use their products to attract tourists. For example, we wish to make tourists come to places where coffee and tea is grown and even enjoy picking and transporting it to the factories,” she added.
Kandie revealed that counties are already expressing interest and showing what they are capable of marketing internationally.
The CS, who was speaking at the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, raised a red flag over the insecurity in the country, saying that it was greatly affecting the number of tourists visiting the country.
Kandie added that her docket was already in consultations with the Ministry of Internal Security in a bid to improve situation in Mombasa.
