A nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kisii County Assembly Ms Ong'uti Risper made the appeal while meeting a number of women groups on Tuesday.

Risper revealed that the County Assembly had allocated a total of Sh10 million towards funding of women projects from the Supplementary Budget that was approved last week.

“The Assembly deemed it necessary to set aside Sh10 million to empower women groups in the County. The groups can access start-up capital for small scale business and farming enterprises,” said Risper.

She identified table banking, goat and poultry keeping, dressmaking, tissue culture banana farming, commercial activities in grocery and cereals as some of the existing wide range of entrepreneurial ventures suitable for women in the densely populated County.

The MCA advised women who were yet to form or join such groups to visit the nearest social development offices, both at Sub County and County levels, for proper guidance on the same.

She further revealed plans by a caucus of women parliamentarians in the local assembly to bring on board various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) whose main objective is to help address various issues affecting the feminine gender in Kisii County.

“We have already struck a partnership deal with National Democratic Institute (NDI), which has already promised to donate funds toward initiating and improving development projects by women in Kisii,” she disclosed.
