Addressing the press on Friday the county executive committee member for Health Sarah Omache, said during the residents will be able to be tested, screened and immediate referrals and advice will be offered for those who are willing.

She said that they have started a program of focusing their attention on creating awareness about cancer, its causes, treatment, control and prevention.

“The Kisii county ministry of health in partnership with APRON has set measures of creating awareness of cancer so that we can join hand in fighting the disease," said Omache.

"Therefore, I urge all residents to be ambassadors for cancer awareness as we have organised a free check up on 4th May at Tabaka Mission Hospital," she added.

On the other hand, the founder of African Arts Promotion Network Elkan Ong’esa said that they want to focus on the community health, particularly cancer.

Ong’esa also noted that many cancer patients seek medical assistance too late when the disease has reached critical levels

“We need to create awareness about cancer since we have come to realise that many patients seek late treatments, we wish that the residents should come out in early stages so that they can be assisted," said Ong’esa.
