The Uasin Gishu county government has challenged alcoholic drinks distributors to work closely with them in the fight against illicit liquor.

County Alcohol Drinks control board Chairman Rev Elijah Cherus says by working together with distributors, it will be easy to identify counterfeit and alcoholic products that might be harmful for human consumption.Speaking in Eldoret on Friday during the official opening of the Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL) sales depot, Rev Cherus also reiterated the need to promote ethical alcohol consumption of alcohol."We have wines and spirits that are below the required minimum standards and the coming in of KWAL will help stop illicit brew business in this region," noted Rev Cherus."I believe you will work with us and help in identifying harmful produced since you are coming as a self-regulated entity in this industry," he added. The County Alcohol Drinks control board Chairman further warned bar owners against operating without licences noting that such businesses are the ones that engage in sell of illicit substances."We shall be doing regular evaluation and monitoring of this sector since we have come to learn that those engaged in this industry without licences are the ones selling illegal substances that are harmful to society," Rev Cherus said.
