Nakuru county askaris are on the spot again for allegedly harassing and torturing an official of a Nakuru-based auctioneering firm.
John Ngunjiri is said to have been accosted by county askaris while executing a court order within Nakuru town.
Ngunjiri claimed the officials assaulted him before holding him in custody for several hours at the county headquarters courts jail, popularly known as ‘municipal cells.’
Speaking to HiviSasa.com, Ngunjiri further claimed he was tortured and intimidated before being released on a personal bond of Sh5,000.
“I was executing a court order from Nakuru BPRT No 50 of 2009 when they roughed me up, and frog-marched me to the cells,” said Ngunjiri.
The auctioneer, who had written to the Kenya Human Rights Commission and the Ombudman's office, said he contemplated moving to court to seek legal redress.
The askaris were also accused last month of harassing a lawyer representing hawkers in a case with the county government.
Ngunjiri now wants the officers punished for their alleged conduct.
