Nyamira governor hopeful Charles Mochama has challenged the county government to account for the Sh196 million collected from various hospitals in the financial year 2015/16.
Mochama alleged that there are no records to show the expenditure of the monies collected, adding that the public has the right to know where the funds are.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday in Nyamira town, Mochama said there are no records to show how money collected from patients when they register to be admitted and for buying drugs, was spent.
“Sh196 million was collected from Keroka ospital, Kijauri, Gesima , Manga and Nyamira hospitals and we want the county to account for it to ensure transparency and accountability of public funds ,” said Mochama.
But in a quick rejoinder, Health Chief Officer Douglas Bosire noted that the county collected Sh42 million and not Sh196 million as per Mochama's claims.
