A group of people living with disabilities has demanded answers from the county government of Uasin Gishu over the whereabouts of over Sh20 million allocated for them in the county budget.
Led by the chairperson of Uasin Gishu umbrella of people living with disabilities Regina Chumba, the group claims the funds never benefited the indented individuals.
"We heard that there were funds allocated for the people living with disabilities in this county but in reality, we don't know how those funds were used," Chumba said in Eldoret on Sunday.
"There were also reports that some of the disabled were given Sh10,000 each from the funds and we asked ourselves how such a small amount of money can benefit a person who has a family to take care of," she added.
In the 2015/16 financial year, Sh20 million was set aside to help people with disabilities with Sh23 million being allocated for the Sam purpose in the current financial year.
"Dishing cash to people living with disabilities will not help anything. We need to give a fishing stick, not a fish," Chumba added.
