Nominated MCA Fatuma Abdi urged governor Ali Korane not to neglect the youth, women and disabled persons in his administration.

“Women, youth and disabled persons should not be treated as second class citizens and be denied the opportunities to grow. The county government should allocate enough funds to help women, youths and disabled to start small businesses to improve their lives," she said as quoyed by KNA.

Abdi said the sports, culture and the gender department should ensure that programs involving women, youth and disabled are implemented to improve their well being in society.

She called on women to come out and vie for political positions.

"Women should stop hiding in the villages, I am urging them to come out and vie for big posts to help transform lives in the society," she noted.

Abdi urged male counterparts to support women in pushing for gender equality adding that elders found defending offenders such rapists will not be spared by the law.

"Retrogressive practices such as FGM and use of Maslaha to solve rape cases locally should be dropped. Elders found defending offenders will have to face the full force of the law," she added.
