Residents in Daraja Mbili market have asked the County Government to put up ditches in order to control floods.
On Monday, heavy waters allegedly swept a trader's property in the market and spoiled several goods, the traders said.
Mr Phillis Nyamwaya, a trader said that the ongoing heavy rainfall in the region has caused floods in the market causing havoc.
"There is congestion in the market and even the old trenches are clogged. Water usually stagnates when it rains heavy or it sweeps through some of the trader's goods," he said.
They now want Ongwae's government to rebuild the marketplace by erecting trading shades and constructing a drainage system around it.
"We are being rained on and yet we pay tax to the county council. We need shades and they should help us get rid of this dirty water that destroys our goods," said Anthony Omoke, a shoe seller.
They further alleged that the flood waters are mixed with sewage, endangering their health.
"Our market is like a slum that needs to be renovated. The dirty water that seeps through the market is usually mixed with sewage, which endangers us," added Joicy Ombui, a tomato seller in the market.
