Kiambu County government has been challenged to support programmes that will empower women and girls for socio-economic development.

County Women Representative Annah Gathecha stated that empowering women and girls will help curb socio-economic challenges facing the society.

Speaking to journalists at Kiambu town on Wednesday, the women representative observed that women have a role to play in development.

She added that the county government must support programmes that will cater for women interests.

“My request is to Kiambu County government to start and support programmes that will improve the welfare of women and girls,” she said.

She further lauded the national government for the various initiatives that have been going on over the past years to empower the girl-child.

She stated that the constitution recognizes and provides an equal share for both men and women, further urging the county government to involve women in matters concerning development..

The women leader called on fellow women not to fear and raise their issues on matters they feel are important and that affect them.

Gathecha said that she will lobby other women leaders across the county for them to spearhead the interests of women.
