On Wednesday, residents urged the county government to seek an alternative site far away from the town in a bid to regulate air pollution resulting from the largest dumping site in the region.

They accused the county government of foul play since it had promised to acquire a different dumping site for health reason, and for almost two years now, nothing concrete had been done.

“I am a sad mother and I know my voice represents many people. This dumping site is perilous to our health as residents of Nyambera. We are exposing our children to diseases and the county government is aware of that,” said Veronica Njeri.

“I personally think the government is sleeping on its job. It is over two years since they took over but instead they have given priority to other sectors leaving health behind,” said Omari Gesora.

They challenged the county leadership to expeditiously move to a different location or else they face unspecified actions from affected members.

“It will be vital if they act in speed and solve this predicament. We will not issue ultimatums but we will take an action if the situation is prolonged,” added Omari.

They, however, lauded the county government over what they called ‘transparent and accountable’ leadership by the James Ongwae-led government.
