Kisii town residents have appealed to Governor James Ongwae to repair the Storm Hotel bridge situated near Kisii prison.
According to them, the lowly build bridge submerges during heavy downfalls, making driving through the flowing waters a dangerous undertaking.
Maxwell Omweri a driver on the Kisii- Nyamira road said the county government should reconstruct the Storm bridge for easy passage, as the river's depth rises whenever it rains heavy.
"The county government should demolish and rebuild it.Water usually flows over it on heavy downpours. We fear driving through the flowing water because we may be swept down the river," he said.
Tobias Omosumi who is a timber trader in the area said he gets it rough when it rains heavily as his business is en route the bridge, forcing him to take a longer route which costs him much.
"When it rains much the bridge is impassable. We are forced to take an alternative road which adds the costs. The county government should set aside funds to reconstruct the ever used bridge," he said.
On January, a 14- seater commuter matatu belonging to Mizizi T Sacco veered off the road and plunged into the storm bridge and several people on board were injured.
