Fight against the ongoing drought in Wajir has received a major boost after members of the county assembly approved a Sh4.6 billion budget to mitigate it.
The said amount is considered part of the 2017/2018 financial year as the county assembly seeks to deliver its mandate for the people of this part of the nation.
The approval took a 30 minutes following agreement among the MCAs. Passing of the budget comes a week after the incumbent Governor Mohamed Abdi called upon legislators to consider the natural disaster.
He noted that the county government needed to urgently come up with a solution to the problem that had made life unbearable for residents of this part of the nation.
The budget approval occurred on Tuesday after current Speaker Ibrahim Ahmed called for a special meeting over the matter in question. The 48 MCAs including those who were nominated agreed that there was need to approve the budget.
"The MCAs raised some issues with the budget but eventually agreed to pass it," Ahmed said, as quoted by Nation.
On his part, Abdi hailed the lawmakers for their response following his request.
