Nakuru County Assembly Members have approved the long-awaited ward development fund bill that seeks to allocate 25 percent of county revenue equitably to the wards in order to spur uniform development.

While moving the motion during a special sitting, Budget and Appropriation Committee chairperson Moses Ndungu said the funds will help address the disparities in development in several wards.

Deputy speaker Samuel Tanui, Chief whip Irene Chebichi, and Kiptororo MCA Kibet Kurgat praised the move saying legal framework needed to be made to ensure whatever is required in each ward is addressed using the funds.

Chebichii said the acute shortage of water facing her Soin ward will be a forgotten problem following the passing of the bill.

Tanui called on Governor Lee Kinyanjui to assent to the bill to enable several projects in the wards completed.
