Speaking on Tuesday at Masimba, youths led by Moses Ogamba said the assembly has ignored passing crucial bills to safeguard their interests and instead diverted its attention in foreign trips.

They also accused the county public service board of prejudices during employment, by giving 'old' people an advantage.

“We are very disappointed by the leadership of the county assembly. None of them has ever come with concrete motion to help us combat contemporary challenges facing the youth,” Ogamba said.

“We have only heard them talking of foreign trips and have consequently failed to tackle the realities on the ground. They have abandoned their role of oversight and that is why the public service board is not giving us equal chances when employing,” he added.

However, Albert Oino, who chairs the assembly’s committee on youth and culture, defended his colleagues from the scathing attack and instead blamed the executive for failing to implement some of the bills they have passed.

“The truth is that we have done a lot. The bill on talent nurturing was passed long ago but the executive has not implemented it. There are a number of bills which touches on youth welfare like supporting of projects initiated by the youths,” he said.
