Kisumu County Assembly members have adjourned for a short recess from April 1 to April 18.
The adjournment Motion was moved by the Assembly Majority Leader Marlin Olero and seconded by newly elected Minority Leader Maurice Ondiek.
While debating on the Motion, Kisumu West MCA Paul Okiri opposed the adjournment saying it was barely two months since they came back to the house from a long recess.
“It’s only two months since we resumed from a long recess and now again the house wants to adjourn for another recess, I oppose Mr Speaker," Mr Okiri said.
He said the MCAs have many duties to perform in the Assembly hence there was no need for another recess.
Manyatta B ward representative Nereah Okombo said some members don’t want the Assembly to adjourn because they are afraid of going to their wards.
“If members fear going back to their wards then they should go for trips or vacations," she said adding that those are matters gazetted and they don’t have powers against them.
Okiri however defended himself by saying he is the only member that commutes from home on a daily basis to attend the assembly sessions.
The house was adjourned and the recess is to begin on Friday April 1.
