Employees of Ederman Properties Project in Kisumu have petitioned the County Assembly of Kisumu on payment of their services and medical compensation by their employer.
The workers stated that they had worked for the company since December 2013 but were allegedly sent away for defending the rights and welfare of other fellow workers.
The workers representative Victor Ragang, in a statement to newsrooms, said that they worked there to the best of our abilities but the conditions of work was wanting.
“We loaded and offloaded cement and other labour intensive work without safety gears such as gloves, masks, gum boots and overall,” said Ragang.
They petitioned the Assembly through Milimani Market Ward Representative Edwine Anayo to help them solve the stalemate.
They indicated that they have worked for long hours from 6 am to 6 pm which brought to somebody like Ragang body complications such as spinal injury and throat cancer.
“We came to the company premises on December 18, 2015 to make follow ups so that we can be paid our service and compensation on the wasted days they sent us away but they have kept us on a cat and mouse game since then,” said Ragang.
The more than 45 employees are now asking the county assembly to help them follow up these payments.
