Nairobi County Assembly through its Majority leader Abdi Guyo has called for a meeting on Monday to try and unite Governor Mike Sonko and his Deputy Polycarp Igathe who resigned from the position on Friday.
Tendering his resignation to the public through his Twitter account, Igathe cited lack of trust from the governor as the main reason he was quitting office.
But speaking to a local radio station in an interview, the majority leader said that as Jubilee leaders in the county they will meet the two top leaders to try and reunite them.
“As a Jubilee leader in Nairobi I have talked to Igathe and he has agreed to meet us with the governor tomorrow but if we don’t reach a solution there will be no problem because legally it won’t affect the governor’s work,” Guyo said as quoted on Citizen FM.
Guyo who is also the MCA representative for Matopeni Ward said that Igathe’s move was unexpected since he did not engage other leaders and the residents before making the decision.
“When I asked him yesterday on his reasons to resign he said that his contribution was not being taken into consideration. I told him that before he could make such a rash decision he would at least have involved us because we are leaders from the same house (Jubilee),” Guyo added.
In his letter, the deputy governor said that his resignation takes effect on the afternoon of 31st January.
