The Kisumu County Assembly Security Committee has now weighed in on the ongoing clashes and tension along the Kisumu and Nandi counties border in Songhor and Kopere.
Chairman, Kisumu County Assembly Security Committee Joshua Auko said they plan to meet their counterparts in Nandi County to bring to an end the continuous clashes.
Auko said they are set to meet the security committee members from Nandi County as soon as possible to lay out issues affecting the two communities.
Auko said the conflict in the area needs a political solution.
“This is not about cattle rustling, it is political and I call upon politicians to come together and soberly address this issue,” he said.
Speaking at the County assembly to the press on Thursday, he also called upon the police officers manning the area not to be partisan.
Auko said there have been reports that the police officers deployed in the area are favoring one side.
“We would like to appeal to our security officers not to take sides in this war. Let them effectively discharge their duties without favour,” he said.
